About the program
The Harbert Institute is UAB's innovation and commercialization arm, supporting faculty, staff and student inventors across a heavily biomedical research portfolio. It runs the Blazer Bridge Fund for early-stage translational funding and the Blazer App Accelerator for validating novel health software and applications, alongside licensing and startup formation support. In 2025 it reported 153 IP disclosures, 22 issued US patents and $7.45M in licensing revenue.
