About the program
The Innovation Accelerator Program is run by Penn Medicine's Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation (CHTI) as a structured, competitive pathway for faculty and staff developing new approaches to health care delivery and patient outcomes. Selected teams move through four phases: early testing and evidence generation, further development and scaling, operationalization with sustainable infrastructure, and dissemination to other health systems that want to adopt the innovation. Teams receive workshops, a dedicated innovation advisor, seed funding of up to $10,000 in Phase One and up to $50,000 in Phase Two, executive review, stakeholder support, and business-model planning. The program is deliberately internal-first, coaching clinician teams to "fall in love with the problem, not the solution," and is highly selective, with roughly 30 applications yielding two winners in a recent cycle. Successful projects are commercialized or externally partnered through the Penn Center for Innovation, and some are adopted by outside payers and health systems.
