Public description
About the program
The MedStar Institute for Innovation, known as MI2, was founded in 2009 as MedStar Health's system-wide innovation organization spanning Maryland and Washington, DC. It develops and deploys technical capabilities including telehealth, simulation, data science and emerging technologies to enable new care delivery models. MI2 is organized into labs: the Business Innovation Lab, the Care Innovation Lab and Telehealth, the Information Innovation Lab, the MedStar Health Simulation Training and Education Lab, and the Center for Wellbeing. The Business Innovation Lab runs venture and inventor services and an innovation incubator that supports startup clinical and operational programs. It builds and commercializes internal innovation rather than operating as an external venture fund.
