About the program

Dartmouth Health's Nursing Innovation Hackathon, described internally as a Shark Tank for nurses, is a two-day event that trains front-line nursing staff in design thinking and then has them pitch solutions to problems they face daily. The inaugural event ran January 26-27, 2023 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and drew registered nurses, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, licensed practical nurses and licensed nursing assistants from across the system. Participants were split into teams, trained on design thinking and artificial intelligence, and judged on their pitches. The winning team was awarded a six-month mentorship with nursing innovation experts to develop its concept further. The event was organized by a Dartmouth Health nurse manager and backed by the system's chief nurse executive.
