About the program
SPARK is Stanford's translational research program, founded in 2006 to advance academic biomedical discoveries into new treatments for patients. Selected projects receive roughly $50,000 per year plus weekly coaching from a volunteer faculty of more than 100 industry experts in drug development, regulatory affairs and commercialization. A large share of its portfolio addresses child and maternal health, global health and orphan diseases. The SPARK model has been replicated at more than 60 academic institutions in over 20 countries.
