Mi4 is CHOC's institute-level innovation hub, created to accelerate innovation and insight that advances children's health through new diagnostic, treatment and care solutions. It concentrates on emerging technology domains including artificial intelligence, genomic medicine, regenerative medicine, robotics and nanomedicine, pairing clinicians with technologists. The institute runs a competitive summer internship program supported by more than 50 expert mentors, holds monthly innovation meetings open to the CHOC community, and hosts an annual Innovation Day. It engages outside organizations through affiliated bodies it helped create, including AIMed, the Medical Intelligence Society and the International Society of Pediatric Innovation, which bring industry, academic and startup participants into CHOC's pediatric innovation network. It was endowed by a gift from the Sharon D. Lund Foundation.
