Mandate and remit
Cleveland Clinic's system-wide Office of Nursing Research and Innovation supports nurses who want to pursue research questions or develop innovative processes, systems and devices, on the premise that the most important ideas come from clinicians providing direct patient care. The office staffs PhD-prepared nurse scientists who mentor bedside nurses through study design, evidence-based practice projects and dissemination. It added a dedicated innovation coordinator role to guide nurses through idea development, and works with the Cleveland Clinic Innovations team for prototyping support and commercialization guidance. The office also runs an evidence-based practice eLearning course and a three-year distance-mediated Post-Doctoral Clinical Nursing Research Fellowship for PhD-prepared RNs who remain employed at their home institutions.
