What This Program Does

The Institute for Nursing Excellence is Memorial Hermann's system-level nursing institute, described as built by nurses for nurses, with fostering innovation and accelerating adoption of best practices as one of its five stated goals alongside workforce, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary role and outcomes goals. It runs nurse manager idea labs that surface recruitment and retention solutions, pilots telenursing to reduce workload, and tests new retention-focused care models aimed at burnout. The Institute created a Professional Governance Congress to amplify nurse voice and built dedicated training facilities at the Texas Medical Center and in west Houston with classrooms, simulation labs and workflow optimization space. It engages outside organizations through The Health Management Academy's Workforce Innovation Collaborative Nursing Catalyst and through partnerships with Houston-area educational institutions. It also convenes an external-facing Nursing and Clinical Innovation Summit that solicits abstracts.
