What This Program Does

Stanford Emergency Medicine's Innovation and Design Advanced Mentorship trains board-eligible or board-certified emergency physicians across three pillars: biodesign, design thinking and digital health. The curriculum combines didactic work in design thinking and biodesign courses with experiential digital health projects and clinical practice. Participants work eight shifts a month, roughly 15 hours a week, as attending physicians in the Stanford University Hospital emergency department, a Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center, supervising residents and medical students. The program is aimed at physicians with a demonstrated interest in health design, medtech and digital health, and its stated outcome is preparing graduates to advise startups, launch medtech careers, invest or consult in life sciences, and drive health system innovation. Applicants submit a CV, cover letter and clinical and non-clinical letters of recommendation.
