Mandate and remit

What This Program Does

The Pediatric Technology Center (PTC) is a joint center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Georgia Tech that pairs pediatric clinicians from Children's with Georgia Tech scientists and engineers to build technological solutions to problems in children's health. It exists because most medical device and technology development is designed for adults, and the center positions itself as addressing that gap for pediatric populations. Work is organized into research pillars covering data science, machine learning and AI for personalized pediatric care; patient-centered care delivery spanning behavioral health, rural access and whole-child care; and technologies and devices adapted for children. The center is housed on the ground floor of the Krone Engineered Biosystems Building on the Georgia Tech campus and draws on a Children's-Georgia Tech collaboration spanning more than two decades. It engages outside parties through faculty research collaborations, seed research grants to joint clinician-engineer teams, and pathways to bring new clinical processes and devices to market.
