What This Program Does

The Center for Data Science, founded in 2015, is a research center at Emory's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing that advances nursing and healthcare data science and acts as a bridge between the school and healthcare institutions. Its flagship asset is Project NeLL, a proprietary suite of applications built by nurses for nurses that includes a repository of more than 2 billion de-identified electronic health records plus data visualization tools and a video library. The center runs the Project NeLL Scholars Program, a year-long data science immersion for Emory Healthcare nurses that pairs training with big-data research projects and peer-reviewed publication. It supports faculty, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral students and technical staff across computational science, nursing science and health informatics, and offers services including mentorship on genomic data, patent assistance and sensor development testing. Outside organizations engage as interdisciplinary collaborators and as healthcare partners applying the center's data-driven methods.
