Fund or office: U-M Innovation Partnerships
Innovation Partnerships is the University of Michigan's central technology transfer and commercialization unit, handling invention disclosures, patents and licenses for the entire university including Michigan Medicine's clinical and biomedical research. It is organized into three teams: Alliances for industry research relationships, Licensing for intellectual property commercialization, and Ventures for startup formation. The office provides intellectual property strategy, licensing, startup formation and industry engagement support to faculty, staff and student inventors. It also invests directly in university spinouts through the Accelerate Blue Fund, an early-stage venture fund, and publishes annual impact reports going back to 2001.
