What This Program Does

The Innovation Maturation Fund is a joint translational funding vehicle created in 2019 by Prisma Health, South Carolina's largest nonprofit health system, and Clemson University through the Health Sciences Center partnership and the Clemson University Research Foundation. It awards up to $200,000 per year in grants to move health-focused technologies from research toward commercial viability, and was described at launch as the first such fund targeted exclusively at health sciences researchers. Eligible applicants include Prisma Health clinicians, Clemson research faculty and graduate students, which deliberately pairs clinical problem definition with engineering capability. Stated goals include advancing medical technologies, supporting translational research, creating jobs and driving regional economic growth. It funds and matures technologies rather than making equity venture investments.
