Mandate and remit
The Center for Innovation opened on September 16, 2022 on the main campus of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick as a partnership between RWJUH and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. It brings clinicians, researchers and private industry together to invent and develop new technologies aimed at both complex and common health care problems. Its principal method is designing and running clinical trials that evaluate promising digital health tools in real patients, including wearable sensors, remote robotic ultrasound systems and mobile EKG technology. A digital transformation core team supplies the AI and data science capability behind those studies. Outside companies engage the center by bringing their digital health products into these investigator-led trials and academic partnerships rather than through an investment vehicle.
