Mandate and remit
The Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HIIE) is UAB's central hub for commercializing research from its academic medical center and university, and it houses UAB's technology transfer function through the UAB Research Foundation. HIIE describes its role as fostering an entrepreneurial community and innovation ecosystem at UAB while providing the infrastructure faculty, staff and students need to commercialize their innovations.
