What This Program Does

Novant Health opened its Institute of Innovation & Artificial Intelligence in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on June 5, 2019 to apply AI to personalized patient care across prediction, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The institute's purpose is to turn Novant's clinical and operational data into actionable insight at the point of care. Its staffing model mixes full-time institute employees with Novant clinicians and operational leaders who rotate through as subject matter experts on specific problems, so solutions are built with the specialties that will use them. The institute is jointly overseen by Novant's chief medical officer and chief digital and technology officer functions. It engages outside technology companies, research organizations, universities and other health care organizations as development partners, selecting vendors to co-develop clinical and operational AI solutions deployed across the Novant footprint.
