Fund or office: Mount Sinai Innovation Partners
Mount Sinai Innovation Partners (MSIP) is the commercialization organization for the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine, handling patenting, licensing, research partnerships and entrepreneurship. In 2018 the Icahn School of Medicine capitalized the i3 Asset Accelerator with an initial $10 million to fast-track commercially relevant discoveries toward patients using a milestone-based development strategy. The accelerator is guided by an advisory team of more than 40 scientists, business professionals and commercialization experts who both allocate funding and steer development. Early funded assets included a novel drug-development platform for cancer and therapies for influenza B. The combination gives Mount Sinai an internal capital vehicle for its own science rather than an external venture fund.
