Fund or office: University of Minnesota Technology Commercialization
Technology Commercialization is the University of Minnesota's central office for patenting, licensing and spinning out university research, including the medical and health sciences discoveries that flow from the Medical School and M Health Fairview clinical enterprise. It handles patent protection and IP management for inventors, licenses technology to established companies, and structures corporate research partnerships. A Venture Center forms startups around University technology, supported by the Discovery Launchpad program of mentoring, networking and executives-in-residence, a Software Startup Development Program, an Early Innovation Fund and a Discovery Capital Investment Program. Outside companies engage the office to license technologies, sponsor research or partner with University spinouts.
