What This Program Does

UPMC Enterprises is the official innovation, commercialization, and venture capital arm of UPMC. The About page describes UPMC as a $28 billion health care provider and insurer based in Pittsburgh and states that Enterprises taps more than 5,000 UPMC physicians and the UPMC Health Plan, which it says provides coverage to more than 4 million members. Official materials describe a flexible investment model that supports early- and growth-stage companies and that can also form companies. Two published focus areas are translational sciences, including diagnostics and therapeutics, and digital solutions. Corporate initiatives named on the official site include the Pittsburgh Health Data Alliance with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, and the Center for Connected Medicine. Jeanne Cunicelli is publicly identified as President of UPMC Enterprises and Executive Vice President of UPMC. The 2025 annual report states that nine companies joined the portfolio that year and that Enterprises is supporting additional system initiatives, including a real-world data platform called Ahavi and work with UPMC Community and Ambulatory Services.
